Planning a wedding? Thinking about a portrait session? Tell me what you’re dreaming up..
Toby Carter didn’t set out to become a photographer. She was sixteen, poking around her grandparents’ house the way you do when you’re bored and looking for something more interesting than what’s on TV, when she came across an old camera tucked away. She picked it up, turned it over in her hands, and something clicked before she’d even taken a photo. Her grandparents saw the look on her face and told her to keep it. She never really put it down.
There was no photography school, no mentor showing her the ropes. Just Toby, that camera, and a lot of trial and error. She taught herself everything: how light works, how to read a room, how to catch a moment before it disappears. Somewhere along the way, weddings became her favorite kind of chaos to document.
Today Toby is a wedding and lifestyle photographer based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with new roots taking hold in southern Missouri. She’ll travel wherever the story is.
Her style is true to life. Fun, candid, documentary. She’s not interested in stiff poses and forced smiles. She wants the real thing: the laugh that catches you off guard, the look between two people who think no one’s watching, the getting-ready chaos that turns into a core memory. Her goal is simple. When you look back at your photos, you should feel like you were standing right there again, not like you’re looking at a stranger’s work.
Toby adores people. She loves a good story, and weddings are full of them. She’ll tell you straight up: she cries at almost every wedding she shoots. Not because it’s expected of her, but because she genuinely gets swept up in it every time.
On your wedding day, Toby isn’t just there to take pictures. She’s your biggest cheerleader, your advocate, and the person quietly making sure you actually get to live in the moment instead of performing for a lens. That’s the whole point. The photos are just proof it happened.
